INSPIRATION
I started this project brainstorming highly functional home office furniture pieces that were beautiful in form and made from light, natural material. I studied utilitarian details and products that could convert to suit the user’s needs.
CONCEPTS
I explored convertible and adjustable home office furniture pieces. Multifunctionality was top of mind while sketching.
renderings
After reviewing with cross-functional teams, we decided to move forward with the ‘twist’ desk option to hit costing and maintain the functionality features. I modeled this desk to refine this design and also explore materials.
spec packs
I created detailed spec packs with callouts to describe the functionality, dimensions, and materials.
material revision
To push the boundaries on materiality, we decided to shift to grass cloth and oak wood. We wanted the piece to maintain its vintage appeal while still being approachable.
sample reviews
We conducted sample reviews overseas and domestically to ensure the final product aligned with the original design intent.
Final product
The Twist Desk is a true combination of form and function. The desk surfaces pivot on a round hub to serve a variety of functions. In its compact form, the table surfaces nest to create an office desk. Expanded, they become an expansive executive desk or angle as a corner desk. The desk can rotate a full 360 degrees, creating any number of configurations to suit your space. The drum-shaped hub has an integrated door that opens to a fixed shelf for storage. The desk features natural white oak inlay work surfaces with the rest of the frame finished in natural grasscloth.
